Bylaws

Please take the time to read and understand these bylaws. By holding a membership card, you agree to abide by them.

  • Members must comply with the bylaws and size limits set by the relevant Water Authority.

  • Night fishing is permitted only for holders of a valid Night Permit, on specified waters. (Contact the Secretary for details). Night Permit holders do not need to purchase day permits for Sabre Lake. Night fishing is not permitted for standard membership card holders.

  • Fishing is permitted by rod and line only, and for sport purposes only.

  • All fish must be returned alive, except for trout. Members may take a maximum of two trout per day from Association waters. Grayling may be weighed but must be returned immediately.

  • Members must carry both their membership card and rod licence at all times when visiting Association waters.

  • Littering is strictly forbidden. Members must not bring glass bottles or metal cans. Drinks should be in plastic bottles or flasks; bait (such as luncheon meat) should be kept in bait boxes. Take all plastic bags, line, and other waste home for proper disposal.

  • A maximum of two rods may be used at any one time.

  • Members must not trespass, cut or damage vegetation, or damage property. Fires and digging into river or lake banks are prohibited. Dogs are not allowed, and the use of portable radios is forbidden. Firearms are not permitted without written consent from the Secretary or Landowner.

  • Always close gates. Maintaining good relations with farmers and landowners is essential.

  • Fishing from road bridges is strictly prohibited.

  • Any signs of pollution must be reported immediately by phoning 01345 078378 (day or night).

  • Vehicles may not be driven across fields or onto banks except with written landowner permission or where official parking is provided.

  • Members must not fish within 15 metres of another angler unless invited.

  • Any member found misusing their membership card (e.g., fishing illegally on another organisation’s waters) will face disciplinary action and may be expelled.

  • Members who breach Association rules, bylaws, or behave in a way that jeopardises the tenancy of waters or relations with landowners will be answerable to the Governing Committee and may face discipline or expulsion.

  • By paying the membership fee and receiving a membership card, members signify acceptance of these bylaws and the jurisdiction of the Governing Committee.

Company Rules

Amalgamated Fisheries Limited was formed on 13th October 2006 as a Company Limited by Guarantee (Company No. 5966655).

The objectives of the Company (referred to here as “the Association”) are:

  • To acquire and manage the assets and liabilities of the former unincorporated body, the Bristol Bath & Wiltshire Amalgamated Anglers.

  • To provide members with the rights, privileges, and advantages of an angling club.

  • To promote angling and encourage fellowship between members.

Membership is open to all individuals accepted by the Governing Committee who pay the prescribed subscription and agree to abide by the Association’s Rules and Bylaws.

The Governing Committee:

  • Reserves the right to refuse any membership application without explanation.

  • May expel or suspend any member whose conduct is deemed harmful to the Association, its members, or the interests of angling. Before expulsion, the member will be given the opportunity to appear before the Committee to explain or defend their conduct.

  • Acts as the sole authority for interpreting the Rules and Bylaws. In cases of uncertainty or issues not covered by these Rules, the Committee’s decision is final and binding on all members.
