about Sabre lake
Sabre is a scenic 3-acre lake located just off the A4 at Quemerford (see map). It’s open to Amalgamated Anglers permit holders and day ticket anglers. Tickets are available from local tackle shops or directly from Pat Leonard.
Originally leased alongside the smaller adjacent Sword Lake, Sabre was purchased by the Amalgamation in 1995, along with the surrounding land. In recent years, a new all-weather car park was installed at a cost of £17,000, improving access throughout the year.
Fishing at Sabre
Sabre is a true mixed fishery. You’ll find bream, roach, rudd, perch, tench, and carp — including a standout ghost carp currently estimated at around 24lb.
The lake is stream-fed by the nearby Brook, and a solar-powered pump has been added under an extraction licence to help maintain water levels during the summer months.
facilities and access
There are two car parks on site, along with a toilet and shelter for anglers. A nearby kebab van is a handy bonus, especially for those night fishing.
Night fishing is permitted at Sabre, but only for permit holders who have purchased a separate night fishing permit.
